Conference at JUST

We learned a great deal from our colleagues at JUST.  I was lucky enough to have a guided tour of their library.  I am more than a wee bit

a wee bit envious, they have self-check machines, a collection that is fully RFID and has after-hours drop box that checks materials for you. It was all very nice indeed. The picture above (one of my own, can't you tell?)  is the forecourt of the new library building.

roadside treats

We stopped by at a roadside vendor for this very tasty treat of green chick peas and green almonds.

Umm Qays

After our first full day in Jordan we headed to the top of the remains of the fortress of Umm Qays.  We enjoyed tea and the astonishing views.  The body of water you see in the background is the Sea of Galilee.

Sunday, March 24, 2013

We arrived safely early this morning and have already met with our counterparts at JUST. Drs. Weber and Daniels gave presentations about the colleges and interational programs. We are off to visit the Umm Qays in a few minutes.

JJC Journeys to Jordan

Greetings!
My name is Susan Prokopeak and I am one of the librarians here at Joliet Junior College. I am the volunteer “blogger” for our educational trip to Jordan. I hope to keep you updated with our activities and observations as we travel around Jordan (from March 22 through April 1, 2013) and meet with our colleagues to support our work and internationalize our curricula.

We are participating, with the College of Lake County, in a U.S. Department of Education Title VIA Grant for Enhancement of International Education and Foreign Languages. This is the final year of the three-year grant and we are visiting Jordan to work with our counterparts at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).

Representing JJC this year (in alphabetical order) are:
Prof. Oksana Alfredson, Fine Arts
Dr. Debra Daniels, our President
Prof. Roya Falahi-Kharaghani, Social Sciences
Prof. Max Lee, Physics
Prof. Roxanne Munch, English and World Languages
Prof. Susan Prokopeak, Library
Prof. Bill Yarrow, English and World Languages

We will be meeting with our counterparts on Sunday March 24th (they are eight hours ahead of us here in the Midwest). We are scheduled to leave Friday evening and arrive Saturday afternoon.
JJC, in cooperation with the College of Lake County (CLC), will be offering classes at JUST this summer.
